All Star Press is excited to present Chicago Style, our 6 Year Anniversary show opening September 30th. A visual art exhibition and homage to the Chicago style hot dog, this show endeavors to center and celebrate the beauty of collaboration and community.
“Chicago Style” is meant to center and celebrate the everyday person. More specifically, it’s meant to celebrate what it means to be from a place,to claim it as your own, and mark it so that it is recognizably yours.
The Chicago Style hot dog we know and love began as a collaboration between different ethnic groups. German immigrants brought over sausages, while Jewish immigrants created the all beef version of the hot dog in the early 1900s. Rosen, a Polish immigrant, created the poppy seed bun, while the classic additions on the Chicago Style Dog began as a friendly rivalry between Greek and Italian immigrant street vendors.
All over the world, different places have their own unique street food, a recognizable aroma, visual que, and palette of a city. Here, we can lay claim to the hot dog, particularly as it is served in Chicago - with Vienna Beef. The show aims to transport the viewer into a space that resides both in the past and present, the timelessness of the Vienna Hot Dog, the heat of summer, the inspiration of celebrating another year working with all the wonderful artists and partners that have been a part of All Star Press for six years now.
“Chicago Style” features a carefully curated lineup of 50 artists whose work encompasses a variety of mediums including prints, paintings, pins, plushies, stickers, toys, and much more. We’re invested in representing all forms and mediums of art, as a nod to the different flavors and mediums that might come together to create one delicious whole.
